The newly inaugurated President of the Nigerian Bar Association, Afam Osigwe, has pledged to hold governments at all levels accountable for their actions.
In his inaugural speech, Osigwe emphasized the need for transparency and good governance, stating that his administration will work to ensure that government policies meet the needs and aspirations of the people, according to Channels TV.
He highlighted several key areas of focus, including reducing the cost of governance, prioritizing citizens’ welfare, addressing security challenges, and providing basic amenities such as education and healthcare.
Osigwe also committed to engaging constructively with governments and stakeholders to address issues affecting the legal profession and administration of justice.
The NBA President’s vows come as the association marks a new leadership era, with Osigwe at the helm.
His administration’s efforts will be closely watched as they work to promote accountability and good governance in Nigeria.
“We will strive to ensure that Government responds appropriately to the challenges of security of lives and properties, respect for the fundamental rights and freedoms, the provision of gainful employment and all the basic amenities of life, especially food, shelter, clothing, qualitative and affordable education, healthcare, and other infrastructure as well as access to justice.
“Under our leadership, the NBA shall be vocal and constantly speak up on issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice. The NBA shall constructively engage with the various tiers of government and other stakeholders by presenting proposals and blueprints for dealing with issues as they arise,” he said.
