Former member of the Senate, Senator Shehu Sani, has condemned the military coup recently plotted in Niger but has warned that military force should not be used to tackle the situation.
The former Kaduna State Senator revealed this in a statement via his Twitter handle on Friday.
While he expressed displeasure over the situation, he warned intervening countries and global organizations, such as: France, United States, ECOWAS etc. not to use military force in retaliation, otherwise, it could degenerate into a Sudan-like civil war.
He wrote, “I condemn the Niger Coup in its entirety, but France,US or Ecowas should not attempt to use military force in anyway. The country can melt into a Sudan like civil war if force is used.”
Recall that, on Wednesday, the country’s military took over power, on the grounds of corruption allegations against the President, Mohamed Bazoum.
Following this development, several countries and global organizations have condemned the coup and have sought to keep Bazoum safe, while making moves to help the country regain its democratic rulership.
