The Governor of Niger State, Mohammed Umaru Bago has attributed the soaring crime rate in the state to the vast “ungoverned” land mass in the state.
The governor explained that criminals have taken advantage of the vast landmass the state is blessed with to unleash their terror.
Bago, during the visit of the new assistant inspector-general of police, added that his administration has resolved to end the festering security challenges, according to Leadership.
He reiterated that his government was ready to partner with the Nigeria Police Force to secure its vast arable land.
He said, “Because of the vast expanse of land the state was blessed with, criminals have taken advantage of the ungoverned spaces to launch their nefarious activities.”
To prevent criminals from using the vast space, he said that his administration would create a Ministry of Pastoral and Nomadic Affairs to work towards securing the forests and ungoverned spaces using the inhabitants of the areas to enable farmers and nomads to return to their farmlands.
