Niger State Local Government Area (Katcha) Chairman, Danlamin Abdullahi Saku, experienced a severe backlash over an outstanding debt.
Saku was brutally beaten by a group of unidentified youths, a confrontation that left him in need of medical attention.
The incident revolves around a debt of N1.3 million that Saku allegedly borrowed from an elder in the local government over a year ago. Despite repeated requests for repayment, Saku had failed to settle the debt, which led to mounting frustration.
The situation escalated on Sunday when Saku reportedly slapped one of the youths sent by the lender to demand the repayment. This act of aggression provoked the youths, who then organized themselves and retaliated by attacking Saku. The chairman was beaten to the point of unconsciousness.
The assault left Saku in critical condition, necessitating immediate medical intervention. He was quickly taken to the hospital, where he is currently reported to be recovering.
