A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Olabode George, has said that Nigeria is currently in a political and economic intensive care unit, requiring urgent attention from experienced leaders to revive its ailing economy and political system.
This was the stark warning issued by Chief George during news conference in Lagos on Thursday.
According to George, the country’s economy is on life support, necessitating immediate action to address pressing issues in the oil and gas and power sectors, according yup Daily Post.
He emphasized the need for President Bola Tinubu to assemble a team of seasoned experts to provide solutions to the country’s myriad problems.
The elder statesman painted a grim picture of a nation struggling to survive, with widespread poverty, food insecurity, and high electricity costs crippling small businesses.
He urged the President to take bold steps to address these challenges, including revisiting the 2014 National Conference recommendations and implementing restructuring, power devolution, and electoral reforms.
George’s warning comes as Nigeria grapples with a series of protests against bad governance, with many Nigerians demanding urgent action to address the country’s economic and political woes.
“Our country Nigeria is in a political and economic intensive care unit. So, we need proper surgeons- political surgeons and economic surgeons.
“We are talking about people who have gone through this before, who should be able to come to give us that freshness of breath to get out. We must put smiles on the faces of Nigerians no matter where they reside.
“Well, some of us can manage, but what about the myriads of so many young Nigerians who cannot even have any meal,” George said.
