A female National Youth Service Corps member who was serving as a presiding officer for the Independent National Electoral Commission during the presidential and National Assembly elections in Enugu State on Saturday has been caught manipulating election results.
The corp member who was alleged to be from Kano State was apprehended while changing the votes of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to New Nigeria Peoples Party candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The event reportedly took place in Abakpa Ward, located in Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State.
She was apparently discovered by sharp-eyed LP operatives who immediately alerted authorities to the presiding officer’s improper behavior.
She was apparently immediately surrounded by a mob before security personnel in the polling place stepped in and averted what may have been a tragedy.
In a video of the incident that went viral on Sunday, the NYSC member apologized while admitting that all of the corps members from northern Nigeria who were voting in the South-East were instructed to rig the results in the former Kano State governor’s favor.
A result sheet with tampered vote totals for the LP presidential candidate was visible in the video.
“I am aware of the full consequences of my action and I am ready to take any punishment. I am sorry, this is what I was told to do,” she said.
