Protesers in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital took to the streets on Thursday during the #EndBadGovernance protests singing the old national anthem, “Arise O Compatriots”, demanding better governance from President Bola Tinubu.
Ironically, the federal government had reintroduced the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee”, just a few months ago, on May 29, 2024.
An amateur video captured the demonstrators standing in solidarity.
They sang the ‘Arise O Compatriots’, demanding better governance from President Bola Tinubu instead of “Nigeria We Hail Thee.”
As Nigerians took to the streets to express their anger over worsening hunger and prohibitive food prices, the original anthem became a rallying cry for change, according to Peoples Gazette.
The protests, which occurred in various parts of the country, saw citizens standing in solidarity, singing “Arise O Compatriots” to demand improved governance and economic relief.
