Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on the people to work towards ensuring a peaceful and united Nigeria.
Shettima made this call at the 37th Annual Akesan Day in Iperu Remo, Ogun State, where he met Governors Babajide Sanwo Olu of Lagos, Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, Abdulrasak AbdulRahaman of Kwara State, and Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State.
According to the Vice President, the country’s multicultural diversity should rather be seen as a source of strength and not division.
Speaking further at the event, held at the Christ Apostolic Grammar School, Iperu Remo, the hometown of Governor Abiodun, Shettima stated that the administration of President Bola Tinubu recognized the roles of traditional institutions, in navigating the intricacies of the country’s diversity and would therefore always prioritize activities that are designed to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of all the tribes in the country.
He reassured that the commitment as expressed by the president to ensure positive transformation in the lives of Nigerians, stand firm and would work round the clock to achieve these goals.
“We pledge our assurances to ensure positive transformation in the lives of Nigerians.
“Festivals like this seek the unity of the country. Ogun state has always been a source of celebration of enduring cultural heritage and values that enhance unity and development.
“We are here to thank you for reminding us of the roles of sociology and economics in cultural celebration in nation building. Our diversity is a source of strength and not division. It is a testimony to our adaptability as a people,” Shettima said.
Also speaking at the event, Governor Abiodun said his administration would continue to build on his achievements to make life better for the residents of the state.
The Governor described this year’s Akesan Day celebration as a double celebration for him, following his re-election victory at the Appeal Court in Lagos on Friday.
Also present at the event were: the Senator representing Ogun West Senastorial District, Solomon Adeola, National leader of the APC, Olusegun Osoba, among others.
