The New Nigeria Peoples Party has accused Abia State Governor, Alex Otti of depriving the state of basic information.
This was made known by the party’s acting chairman in the state, Kelechi Apugo, while fielding questions from the press.
He stressed that Otti’s administration is hiding information concerning the state government and some contractors engaged in the state.
He opined that the current administration is hiding information to disarm opposition parties with the view to not being accountable, according to the Independent.
He maintained that the governor has not performed optimally as expected even after spending more than 100 days in office.
He advised Otti to keep to his words as much is expected from him as the governor of the state.
In his words, “During his campaign, Otti made so many promises but to be truthful, he hasn’t done much. He hasn’t done much in respect of his campaign promises to Abians. I won’t say he hasn’t done anything but based on how he convinced Abians, he lags behind. To be frank, Alex Otti hasn’t done much because Abians expected that he would have done better.
“Let me tell you, the government of Alex Otti has decided to hide some basic information from the general public. What is the information concerning the state government and some contractors engaged and if such information is hidden, how are we going to hold them accountable? This is because as the opposition party in Abia, our work is to hold the government accountable. Whatever they are doing, they are hiding it, including the roads you mentioned and in that situation, it will be hard to know what is actually happening concerning the road construction for now. They are hiding information in order not to be held accountable and I think it’s not the right way to go about doing things.
“Alex Otti is the current governor of Abia State and I believe Abians need to trust him. We are expecting Otti to start executing what he promised Abians. But unfortunately after over one hundred days in office, Otti is playing hide and seek. The agenda is not known and you can see that they are hiding some of his projects from public scrutiny. I want to use this opportunity to tell Otti that we are expecting more from him. Much is given to him and much more is expected of him. This is my humble advice to him.”
