Senior executives of the New Nigeria People’s Party in Kaduna State have announced their intention to join the People’s Democratic Party.
This comes just days after three chieftains of the PDP defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
The NNPP executives, led by Chairman Alhaji Akilu Yahaya Kabo and Secretary Philip Ladan, stated that they had held meetings with Senator Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, a National Leader of the PDP and former Governor of Kaduna State. They expressed their conviction that the PDP is now the party with the solution to Nigeria’s problems.
Senator Makarfi welcomed the defectors, saying, “Nigerians are seeing the difference between the PDP and the APC based on welfare of citizens, governance, and the economy of the country.”
He encouraged them to register as PDP members in their local wards and promised a formal welcome ceremony once arrangements are concluded.
NNPP Kaduna State Secretary, Philip Ladan, explained that they left the NNPP due to its lack of vision and capacity to address Nigeria’s economic challenges. He stated that all NNPP state executives, local government officials, and supporters have decided to join the PDP.
In a related development, PDP chairmanship aspirant Danjuma Bello Sarki vowed to prevent Governor Uba Sani’s re-election bid in 2027. He promised to block the APC’s alleged rigging formula and ensure a free and fair election. Sarki emphasized the need for unity and fresh ideas within the PDP to achieve victory in the 2027 gubernatorial election.
