The New Nigeria People’s Party is set to conduct a congress on February 23, 2024, to decide which of its four aspirants to pick as the candidate for the September 21, 2024 Edo State governorship election.
The NNPP five-man screening committee, on Wednesday in Abuja, screened the four aspirants: Peter Okoeguale, Rev. Sebastian Iyere, Balogun Engeeleyeme, and Pastor Friday Azemehe.
The party had amassed N44 million from the sale of its Nomination and Expression of Interest forms to the four Edo State governorship aspirants.
The NNPP Nomination Form was sold for N10 million, while the Expression of Interest Form was N1 million. However, the party made the Expression of Interest Form free for female aspirants and those with disabilities.
Addressing newsmen at the commencement of the screening, the chairman of the committee, Senator AbdulRahman Abubakar, said whoever emerged as its candidate would become the next governor of Edo State.
He said, “We will be very much interested in whoever emerges as our candidate, which will be the next governor of Edo and the kind of governance he is going to offer. The example we are laying in Kano State should also be extended to Edo State by the end of this year, God’s willing.”
