Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has dissolved his cabinet in preparation for the November 12 swearing-in of Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress as the state’s new governor.
Obaseki, who took office on November 12, 2016, will conclude his eight-year tenure on November 12, 2024. He announced the dissolution of the cabinet shortly after a valedictory session held on Friday at the Government House in Benin.
During the session, Deputy Governor Godwins Omobayo moved the motion to dissolve the 2020-2024 State Executive Council, which was seconded by Osilama Okuofu, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.
Governor Obaseki expressed appreciation to his cabinet members for their support in advancing his administration’s vision of making Edo great again. He also thanked the people of Edo State for their support, prayers, and collaboration over the years.
Cabinet members took turns to acknowledge the governor’s achievements in various sectors, commending his leadership and the opportunity to serve the state.
Outgoing commissioners and heads of ministries, departments, and agencies presented awards and gifts to honor Obaseki’s contributions during his tenure.
The valedictory event concluded with a dinner held in the governor’s honor, marking the end of the current state executive council’s service.
