The Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission will release the list of successfully screened candidates for the positions of Chairman and Councillor in the 20 Local Governments of Ogun State on Monday, October 14.
The Commission’s Chairman, Babatunde Osibodu, made this announcement during the conclusion of the screening exercise at OGSIEC headquarters. Osibodu expressed satisfaction with the exercise’s conduct, citing its seamless verification process.
To facilitate the screening, OGSIEC divided the verification process into the three Senatorial Districts of the state. This arrangement allowed candidates to return to their destinations promptly.
Commissioners Tunji Akoni and Gbemi Onasanya also addressed the candidates. Akoni encouraged aspirants to engage directly with voters and focus on grassroots campaigns. Onasanya emphasized the importance of parties presenting trustworthy agents to protect their votes.
Some candidates praised OGSIEC for its professionalism and preparedness during the screening exercise. The list’s publication marks a significant step towards the November 16 Local Government elections.
OGSIEC’s commitment to fairness and transparency aims to ensure credible elections. The Commission’s efforts will be closely watched as the electoral process unfolds.
While assuring political parties of carrying out a thorough process, he said, “I have said it times without number that, you should trust the process. I guarantee you that at the end of it, everybody will see that we are fair”.
