The 2023 Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, during the 18th March election in Ogun State, Ladi Adebutu, has visited the state headquarters of the Police in Eleweran, Abeokuta, following the allegations that he has absconded, over the allegations of vote-buying and money laundering during the last election.
Adebutu, who returned to the country last week, after his medical leave abroad visited the police headquarters on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.
The former federal lawmaker who was accompanied by chieftains of the PDP arrived at the Police headquarters around 11:10 am.
On getting to the police headquarters, the party candidate moved straight to the commissioner’s office, after which he visited the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, to clear the air on the allegations.
Adebutu who spoke with newsmen shortly before leaving the Command, claimed that he had visited the Police at his discretion.
He said, ” I have come and I’m happy that this institution has done well, they have listened, they have taken records and I’m sure that this is the way to a better Nigeria.
“The frivolous allegations that Ladi Adebutu has been laundering his money, I don’t know how you can launder your wealth, that is the allegation against me by the APC; that I have laundered my money, that I have used my money to create empowerment for people that I feel compassionate about Nigerians that are in need, that I have helped but they should note, I will continue to help.
“ It was dictated by my late mother to be of help to women and children. We have done empowerment programmes and we will continue to do them. By January 19th, 2024 which marks one year of her passing away, we will be having special programmes again to continue these empowerment programmes as we have done over the years. But because these people (APC) lack empathy, they lack compassion for society, they trivialise and politicise everything.”
Adebutu was accused of fleeing the country over allegations of vote buying and money laundering, among other allegations levelled against him by the ruling All Progressives Congress.
However, on his return to the country, the former lawmaker visited the Police to clear the air of the allegations levelled against him.
