The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has praised the recent meeting between Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, calling it a vital step toward national unity and progress.
Governor Mohammed and Obi convened in Bauchi a few days ago, where the governor emphasized the need for collaboration.
He expressed his commitment to working with Obi, stating, “I’m ready to work with Peter Obi. We will make sure we come together, close ranks, bring good governance to the country, and give vibrant opposition with knowledge, timelines, and visions in such a manner that we will rescue and recover our country.”
The governor further stressed the broader backing for such a unity effort, adding, “Our coming together is a message, and the message is going to resonate because all our colleagues, the PDP governors, are behind this kind of journey because it is a transcendental one. We are coming together to work together irrespective of party, region, religion, or any other thing.”
In response to this development, the National President of the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, highlighted the need for younger, dynamic leaders to lead the nation toward progress.
In a statement issued on Friday, Okwu emphasized that Nigeria requires energetic and innovative leaders. He pointed out that the country needs leaders who are not over the age of 65, especially at a time when the country is facing significant challenges.
“Nigeria has faced a lot in the hands of leaders who may mean well for the country, but may not have the strength to drive home the vision they have for the nation,” Okwu said.
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Okwu noted that younger leaders like Governor Bala Mohammed and Peter Obi are well-positioned to lead the country in a new direction. He echoed the governor’s sentiments, urging the two leaders to unite and work together toward a better future for Nigeria. “As the governor said in his speech, we urge them to close ranks, work together and chart a new course for Nigeria. The Nigerian youths are ready to work with anyone with a clear vision for the prosperity of the nation,” Okwu remarked.
Okwu also called on other young political leaders to set aside personal ambitions and come together to shape the political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections.
