A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Kassim Afegbua has said that the emergence of Ifeanyi Okowa as the running mate of the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, is not the party’s choice.
Afegbua spoke when he was featured on Channels Television adding that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu in collaboration with Atiku picked Okowa against the party’s decision.
He said, “Dr Iyorchia Ayu is working from answers to questions and he’s working in cohort with the candidate of the party. Don’t forget that after the convention, when he visited the Tambuwal, he said he was the hero of the convention. The chairman of the party should be fair to all participants, such kind of words already shows his biases.
“He and the candidate met to take this decision (choosing Okowa as running mate), as I speak there is a lot of anger, there are lots of people that are not satisfied because his own singular decision has toppled the collective decision which was taken by different strata of the party.
“Today, I have gotten about three to four calls from people who are saying that Ayu has a window between now and 12 midnight to reverse that decision, or something else will begin to happen, and these are the high-placed people who were part and parcel of that political process.
“Your decision cannot topple the collective decision of the party. When you say party, it means a collection of people who sit together to make a decision, but this was not the case.”
