Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has taken a leading role in the campaign for the People’s Democratic Party governorship candidate in Ondo State, Chief Agboola Ajayi, promising a brighter future and total liberation for the state.
During a campaign tour across several communities in the Akoko region, Makinde assured voters that Ajayi would deliver on his promises if elected in the November 16 governorship election.
He was joined by PDP leaders from both Oyo and Ondo states, as they visited towns and villages in the Akoko North-West and Akoko North-East Local Government Areas.
The campaign made notable stops at the palaces of prominent traditional rulers, including the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadiri Momoh; the Owa Ale of Ikare Akoko, Oba Adeleke Adegbite; and the Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Victor Adetona.
Governor Makinde emphasized that Ajayi’s victory would usher in a new era of security and development for Ondo State.
He said, “The victory of the PDP in the forthcoming governorship poll will be a liberation for the people of the Sunshine State. This is a vote of liberation. Once there is security, everything else will fall into place. Insecurity will be a thing of the past once Ajayi is elected as governor.”
He also assured the traditional rulers that Ajayi would give them a significant role in his administration, saying, “If he wins the election, I assure you that Agboola Ajayi will give traditional rulers a place of pride in his administration. We are behind him and will do everything to ensure victory.”
Ajayi, who previously served as deputy governor, reiterated Makinde’s commitment to traditional rulers, promising that their involvement in governance would be a priority.
He said, “All first-class Obas will be members of the cash allocation committee. They will participate in security and contract verification exercises.”
Ajayi urged the traditional rulers to counsel their communities against violence and election-related disturbances.
Reflecting on past political violence, he warned against election rigging, stating, “We don’t want a crisis in Ondo State. If they rig in other places, they shouldn’t try it here. My government would empower traditional rulers to assist in tackling security challenges in the Akoko area.”
He concluded by advocating for a peaceful election process, saying, “Help talk to our people not to cause trouble before, during, and after the election.”
The tour saw widespread support from local leaders and communities, with the PDP campaign focusing on peace, security, and better governance for Ondo State.
