Ondo State Governor, Mr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has promised to prioritize workers’ welfare if re-elected in the upcoming November 16 governorship election, declaring an end to the era of part-payment and percentage-based salaries in the state.
Aiyedatiwa made the commitment on Wednesday while addressing members of the National Union of Local Government Employees during the NULGE Day ceremony held in Akure, the state capital.
During the event, the union gave its unanimous endorsement to Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy, presenting him with an award as the Grand Patron of NULGE.
Speaking to the gathering, Aiyedatiwa expressed his gratitude to the workers for their support.
“I understand that your presence here today is not just to show numbers but to express your solidarity with me, and I deeply appreciate that,” he said.
The governor assured the workers that under his leadership, their welfare would be a top priority.
“The era of delayed salaries, part-payment of wages, and percentage-based salaries is over in Ondo State,” he declared.
Aiyedatiwa also announced that leave bonuses had been approved for mainstream civil servants in the state. He vowed to continue prioritizing workers’ welfare if he is re-elected.
In his remarks, the state president of NULGE, Mr. Fredrick Akinrilola, lauded the governor for consistently addressing the concerns of the union and ensuring the welfare of its members.
Akinrilola explained that the decision to endorse Aiyedatiwa was based on his track record of improving working conditions and always listening to workers’ concerns.
“We have witnessed remarkable growth and progress under your leadership. You have always shown a genuine commitment to our issues, and this is why we, as a union, have unanimously decided to endorse you as our preferred candidate for the November 16 gubernatorial election,” Akinrilola said.
He added, “Governor Aiyedatiwa has always been there for us, and we believe that with him, the future of local government employees in Ondo State is secure.”
This endorsement by NULGE comes as Governor Aiyedatiwa intensifies his campaign for re-election, with workers’ welfare taking a central role in his administration’s promises.
