The Ondo chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has assured government workers in the state that the new minimum wage will be included in their November salary.
The Acting Chairman of the NLC, Mr Ademola Olapade, gave this assurance on Sunday in Akure during a discussion with journalists regarding the proposed strike over the delay in the new minimum wage implementation.
The national leadership of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress had planned to initiate a nationwide strike starting December 1, citing the delayed payment of the new minimum wage by some state governments.
Olapade, who also led the labour side in the minimum wage negotiations with the state government, stated that the government had made all necessary arrangements to begin payments by the following week.
“We are not going to join the strike in Ondo State because, on our side, we have concluded arrangements with the state government.
“The payment was supposed to commence last week but was delayed due to a sliding error which had been corrected.
“So, by the grace of God, workers in Ondo State including the Local Government (LG) workers will start receiving their November salary with the minimum wage by next week,” Olapade said.
He reiterated the union’s commitment to ensuring that workers’ welfare continues to be a top priority.
It is noteworthy that on October 14, 2024, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced a new minimum wage of N73,000 for all civil servants in Ondo. He also mentioned that the implementation of the new minimum wage would begin in November 2024.
