Ondo State Governor and All Progressives Congress candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is currently leading in 15 local government areas as the Independent National Electoral Commission announced results from Saturday’s governorship election.
The State Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, who also serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, formally commenced the state collation exercise at 12:10 a.m. on Sunday.
In the 15 LGAs declared so far, Ayedatiwa emerged victorious in all, including Idanre Local Government, the hometown of the Peoples Democratic Party deputy governorship candidate, Mr. Festus Akingbaso.
The results revealed APC’s dominance across the state:
– Ifedore LGA: APC – 14,157 votes, PDP – 5,897 votes.
– Ondo East LGA: APC – 8,163 votes, PDP – 2,843 votes.
– Ile Oluji/Oke Igbo LGA: APC – 16,600 votes, PDP – 4,442 votes.
– Idanre LGA: APC – 9,114 votes, PDP – 8,940 votes.
In Idanre, however, the PDP agent alleged irregularities, claiming no voting occurred in Ofosun Oniseri ward and reporting ballot box snatching at Alade ward. He called for votes from these areas to be excluded from the final tally.
Additional results showed:
– Irele LGA: APC – 17,117 votes, PDP – 6,601 votes.
– Akoko South West LGA: APC – 29,700 votes, PDP – 5,517 votes.
– Owo LGA: APC – 31,914 votes, PDP – 4,740 votes.
– Ondo West LGA: APC – 20,755 votes, PDP – 6,387 votes.
– Akoko South East LGA: APC – 12,140 votes, PDP – 2,692 votes.
– Akoko North West LGA: APC – 25,010 votes, PDP – 5,502 votes.
– Ose LGA: APC – 16,555 votes, PDP – 4,472 votes.
– Akure South LGA: APC – 32,969 votes, PDP – 17,926 votes.
– Akoko North East LGA: APC – 25,657 votes, PDP – 5,072 votes.
Following the announcement of the 15th LGA result, Prof. Akinwumi declared a recess, stating that collation would resume at 12 noon for the final results from the remaining three LGAs: Ilaje, Ese Odo, and Odigbo.
