Amidst the tribunal saga, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State yesterday visited NYSC orientation camp at Ede for the swearing in ceremony of the 1st batch Stream 1 of 2023 corps members.
Governor Adeleke on his twitter page wrote
‘we visited the NYSC Orientation Camp at Ede for the swearing in of the 1st Batch, Stream 1 of 2023 corps members. I assured them of our commitment to improve the welfare of the Corpers serving in our state and also to prioritise their safety during their stay’.
‘In my remarks, I urged them to be of good behaviour as they are also going to play important role in the forthcoming election. I assured them that our administration will prioritise their welfare and transform the camp by making necessary renovations.’
The visit is coming admist the brouhaha that clouded his seat as the Governor of Osun State
Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal yesterday sacked Governor Ademola Adeleke and ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC, to withdraw the certificate of return issued to him and issue a fresh one to Oyetola as the duly elected governor of Osun.
The tribunal held that Adeleke did not score the majority of lawful votes during the July 16 governorship election in the state.
Delivering judgment on Friday, two out of the three-member panel of the tribunal held that Oyetola could prove that there was indeed over-voting in some of the polling units.
In his immediate reaction, Ademola Adeleke described the tribunal judgment as “a miscarriage of justice” and vowed to file an appeal before the Court of Appeal.
A statement signed by the Spokesperson to the Governor Olawale Rasheed read,
As” a miscarriage of justice”, vowing to challenge the ruling at the Court of Appeal.
Reacting to the verdict of the Tribunal from his country home, Ede, Governor Adeleke faulted the resolution of the over-voting question in favour of Mr Oyetola, calling it ” an unfair interpretation against the will of majority of voters”
While urging his supporters to remain calm, Governor Adeleke vowed to appeal the judgement at the Court of Appeal, insisting he remains the rightful winner of the July 16 election.
“I call on our people to remain calm. We will appeal the judgement and we are sure justice will be done. Let our people be reassured that we will do everything possible to retain this widely acclaimed mandate”, Governor Adeleke declared.
