Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that the opposition Peoples Democratic Party cannot do without him.
Wike made the boast on Friday during a media chat in Port Harcourt, adding that though he can be discarded at the national level, PDP cannot without him in Rivers.
The Rivers State helmsman made this injunction following the party’s decision to carry on with the election campaign council inauguration on September 24 after his team withdrew from the council.
Wike’s team pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council after the call for the resignation of the PDP National Chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu was ignored.
The Rivers State governor maintained that it became imperative for Ayu to resign and appoint a southerner, seeing that no southerner occupies any of the top three positions in the PDP.
Wike who boasts to have touched all the 23 Local governments in Rivers State said he carries weight in his state and if PDP is serious about winning the 2023 presidential election, they wouldn’t discard Rivers State.
The Former PDP presidential aspirant argued that any contesting president that does not have Lagos, and Kano states, will not undermine the role Rivers State will play in the election.
He said, “You can do without me I agree, but to say you will do without me in this state (Rivers), it will not be possible,” Wike declared.
The governor further asserted that it is sad the individuals who are pulling the string of discord in the PDP are those who rarely bring anything to the table.
