The Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum is scheduled to convene a crucial meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, October 22.
This gathering precedes the National Executive Committee meeting planned for Thursday.
The meeting aims to discuss the party’s reconciliation efforts, led by Olagunsoye Oyinlola.
Oyinlola’s committee met earlier to finalize its report, which will be submitted to the National Working Committee for scrutiny before being presented to the NEC for approval, according to NaijaNews.
A key focus of the reconciliation efforts is unity within the party. The committee seeks to address internal disputes and make the PDP a formidable force. The upcoming Ondo Governorship election is also a priority, with strategies being put in place.
The PDP-GF meeting will deliberate on whether to hold the NEC meeting as scheduled or set a new date. Additionally, possible agenda items for the NEC meeting will be discussed.
Oyinlola’s committee has been engaging with various stakeholders, including the National Assembly Caucus, to gather insights and suggestions. The goal is to strengthen the party and resolve internal conflicts.
The NEC meeting is expected to be pivotal in shaping the PDP’s future direction. The outcomes of the Governors Forum and Reconciliation Committee meetings will likely influence the party’s decisions and actions moving forward.
Addressing journalists shortly after today’s meeting with the PDP National Assembly Caucus, Oyinlola said, “As part of our assignment as members of the National Reconciliation Committee, we scheduled to meet members of the National Assembly to share their experiences and understand what is causing the dwindling fortunes of our party politically.
“We’ve had useful discussions, and I believe we have gathered suggestions that will help unite our party and make it formidable. That’s what this evening’s discussions were about.
“One obvious thing is that for any party to enter a political battle and win, it must be united. That’s what we’re aiming for.”
On the upcoming Ondo Governorship election, Oyinlola stated, “The National Reconciliation Committee has toured the South-West, and the Ondo election came up prominently. We are putting our strategies in place.”
When asked who the committee is reconciling, the party chieftain said: “Anyone within the party who has a disagreement with someone else, those are the individuals we’re reconciling.”
Regarding rumours of suspension recommendations within the party, Oyinlola said, “As far as we’re concerned, I would take that as a rumour for now. We’re meeting with the National Working Committee tomorrow, so after that, you can ask me again.”
