The Peoples Democratic Party has officially launched its governorship campaign in Ondo State, ahead of the November 16 election.
Acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagun, led the party’s National Working Committee members and other top leaders to Akure, the state capital, on Tuesday.
The campaign rally marked the beginning of the opposition party’s efforts to secure the governorship seat. PDP’s candidate, Agboola Ajayi, is poised to leverage the momentum to connect with voters and amplify the party’s message to the people of Ondo State, according to Leadership.
Governors elected on the PDP platform, led by Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who chairs the PDP Governors Forum, accompanied Damagun to Akure. Before departing from Abuja, Mohammed reaffirmed Damagun’s status as the acting national chairman, emphasizing that the status quo remains.
Ajayi’s leadership experience, economic vision, and grassroots support make a compelling case for his candidacy, according to the party. The PDP expressed confidence in its candidate’s ability to succeed in the upcoming election.
The campaign launch comes amid the party’s internal leadership dynamics, with Damagun’s position recently challenged. However, the PDP Governors Forum’s show of support demonstrates unity behind Damagun’s leadership.
The Ondo State governorship election is slated for November 16, with Ajayi facing off against candidates from other parties. The PDP’s campaign efforts will focus on showcasing Ajayi’s vision and leadership capabilities to the electorate.
