The National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has indefinitely postponed the inauguration of the Edo State Governorship Election National Campaign Council, which was initially scheduled for Tuesday, June 4, 2024.
This decision comes in response to the ongoing industrial action by labour unions across Nigeria.
Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, announced the postponement in a statement released on Monday in Abuja. He explained that the labour strike, which has significantly disrupted both government and private sector operations, necessitated this delay.
According to Ologunagba, a new date for the inauguration will be announced later.
“The PDP charges all members of the campaign council, party leaders, critical stakeholders, our teeming members and supporters in Edo State and across the nation to continue in their unrelenting efforts towards the success of our party and governorship candidate, Dr. Asue Ighodalo, in the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State,” he stated.
The strike, initiated by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress along with their affiliates, has led to widespread shutdowns of government ministries, departments, and agencies in Abuja, with compliance rates nearing 100 percent.
