The Peoples Democratic Party has announced that its second National Executive Council meeting for 2024 will take place on Thursday, September 26th.
This decision follows the first NEC meeting held on April 18th, where several issues, including the status of Acting National Chairman Amb. Illiya Damagum, were postponed to the next meeting, initially scheduled for August.
At the previous NEC meeting, the North Central caucus of the party advocated for a candidate from their zone to complete the truncated tenure of former Chairman Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu, who resigned almost two years into his four-year term.
In preparation for the September NEC meeting, the PDP has set July 27th for ward and delegate congresses to elect ward executives and three ad-hoc delegates in 23 out of the 36 states, including Abuja. States involved in these congresses include Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Benue, Bauchi, Federal Capital Territory, Taraba, and Ebonyi, among others.
This schedule is part of the PDP’s 2024 adjusted timetable and schedule of activities for Congresses, released on Monday. According to the timetable, appeals from the ward congresses will be reviewed on August 2nd, 2024. Following this, Local Government Congresses to elect LGA executives and national delegates will occur in 21 states on August 10th, with appeals from these congresses to be addressed on August 16th.
State Congresses are planned for 18 states on August 31st, including Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta, Kano, Rivers, FCT, Benue, Katsina, Ekiti, and Ebonyi. Appeals from these state congresses will be considered on September 5th, 2024.
