The Peoples Democratic Party has emerged victorious in the Adamawa local government elections, winning all 21 chairmanship seats in the state.
According to the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, the PDP also secured 225 out of 226 councillorship seats, with the New Nigeria People’s Party winning the remaining seat in Demsa Ward, Demsa Local Government Area.
The election, which was conducted amidst reports of voter apathy, saw 12 out of 19 political parties in the state participating in the exercise, according to Nigerian Tribune.
Notably, the All Progressive Congress , Social Democratic Party , and Labour Party had withdrawn from the contest, citing concerns over the composition of the ASIEC members.
The ASIEC chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, announced the results at a press briefing, stating that certificates of return would be issued to the winners on Monday.
This outcome solidifies the PDP’s dominance in the state’s local government landscape.
Briefing Journalists at its head office, Chairman of Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission Alhaji Mohammed Umar said election was conducted in all the 226 wards and 4104 polling units across the state.
“As at this afternoon 3:30 pm we have received reports from all the polling units and as it stands Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won all the chairmanship positions in the 21 local government areas of the state.”
