In the lead-up to the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the Asue/Ogie Campaign Management Council has unveiled the manifesto of the Peoples Democratic Party candidates, Dr. Asue Ighodalo and his running mate, Osarodion Ogie, Esq.
The manifesto, titled “Pathway to Prosperity For All,” outlines their comprehensive plan for the state’s development.
The manifesto serves as the working document for Ighodalo and Ogie, detailing their strategies in various sectors including security, women and youth development, education, agriculture, and food security. It also addresses rural and community development, aiming to uplift the standard of living across Edo State.
Among the key issues highlighted in the document are care for the elderly, respect for traditional and religious institutions, industrialization, and support for children and vulnerable populations. The manifesto emphasizes the importance of engaging the diaspora to foster development throughout the state.
The document states, “With the creation of platforms for active participation in the state development, recognizing the valuable skills, perspectives, and investments, it is poised to engender an environment of collaboration and mutual respect that would take the state to higher heights.”
A significant focus is placed on the youth, with the document declaring, “You are the leaders of today, not the future. We will actively support and invest in your potential. We commit to enhancing educational opportunities, paying a bursary to qualifying students, expanding job training programs, and fostering an environment where your innovative ideas and entrepreneurial spirit can thrive. We will champion your rights, respect your voices, and ensure your equal participation in all aspects of society. We commit to creating policies that safeguard your health, advance your education, and promote your economic well-being.”
The manifesto further promises to support the elderly by creating an environment with access to healthcare, social services, and free public transportation, along with other community programs tailored to their needs.
Known collectively as Ai/O2, Ighodalo and Ogie also pledge to cultivate an environment conducive to growth and sustainability. They aim to develop policies that enhance economic stability, provide incentives, and streamline regulatory processes to make Edo State the most business-friendly state.
Regarding the media, the manifesto states, “We will continue to uphold and protect your essential role in fostering an informed and engaged public. We commit to ensuring transparency and access to information, enabling you to report freely and accurately on matters of public interest.”
