The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has denied the report alleged talks with Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria People’s Party, for a possible merger, to wrestle power from the All Progressives Congress, if the outcome of the ongoing tribunal, calls for a rerun.
Mr Obi stated this while speaking at a party rally, held in preparation for the coming local government election in Edo state, on Monday, August 21, 2023.
Premier Politics reported that it was speculated that the three party candidates were looking at the possibility of an alliance which would enable them to present a formidable candidate, to wrestle power from the ruling APC, and President Bola Tinubu, whose victory at the February 25 Presidential election is being challenged in the court, by Atiku and Obi.
Reacting during the LP’s mega rally in Edo state, Obi told hundreds of the party supporters, that most of what they do in public places are mere rumours.
He however assured the supporters of his commitment to the Labour Party, noting that there is no going back on building a better Nigeria.
“Labour Party will continue to grow. We will continue to go stronger (and) better. Half of the things you are hearing everywhere are rumours, don’t listen to them. We are committed to building a better and a new Nigeria where we will move Nigeria from consumption to production,” Obi told supporters.
