Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, made a significant visit to the College of Nursing Sciences at St. Joseph Hospital in Adazi-Nnukwu, Anambra State.
He generously donated N10 million in financial support to facilitate the training of additional nurses, highlighting his dedication to investing in vital areas of human development.
Obi expressed his commitment to societal advancement through investments in critical human development sectors, stating, “In continuation of my commitment to contributing to building a better society through investments in critical areas of human development, I visited the College of Nursing Sciences, St. Joseph Hospital Adazi-Nnukwu, and gave them my support of N10 million, for the training of more nurses.”
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by the college, Obi emphasized its longstanding contribution to producing qualified nurses and midwives, thus significantly impacting the region’s healthcare sector and human capital development.
“The college, which is one of the oldest, has over the decades produced qualified nurses and midwives, and it has contributed immeasurably to the growth of our health sector and the development of our human infrastructure,” he remarked.
Obi’s investment in the nursing college aligns with his continuous advocacy for aggressive investments in education and healthcare, particularly in healthcare workforce training.
“I have remained consistent in my advocacy for more aggressive investments in the critical areas of education and health, especially for the training of healthcare workers,” Obi reaffirmed.
Furthermore, he stressed the importance of investing in nurse training to address the country’s needs and assist in addressing the global shortage of healthcare workers.
“Different health organizations have continued to warn about the impending shortage of healthcare workers, especially nurses, on the global level. By investing in their training, we will be able to produce enough to meet our needs and contribute to managing the global shortage,” he concluded.
