The Kwara State Government has started the Citizens’ Engagement on the 2024 budget, a process that allows the people to have a say in how the state’s resources are allocated and spent.
The first session was held on Wednesday in Patigi Local Government Area, Kwara North.
The Citizens’ Engagement was initiated by Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq in 2019 and has become an annual feature of the budget process in the state.
According to the governor, the aim is to “ensure citizens’ aspirations drive the budget process, deepen participatory democracy, and for govt deliver needs-based projects for the growth of the people and development of the state.”
The engagement sessions are also an opportunity for the government to share its policy direction and priorities for the next fiscal year, as well as to solicit feedback and suggestions from various stakeholders.
The sessions for Kwara South and Central will be held in Offa and Ilorin East LGAs respectively in the coming weeks.
