The presence of armed security operatives from the police and the Directorate of State Security has caused confusion in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State on Monday.
The security operatives stormed the Ondo State Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, to prevent a planned peaceful protest by youths of the party on Monday, October 16, 2023.
The planned protest organised by the youths of the PDP, demands the whereabouts of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who has been allegedly absent from the state since April 2023.
It would be recalled Governor Akeredolu who has been on medical leave outside the country, came back last month, but it has been speculated that the governor did not return to the state, but stayed in his Ibadan residence to govern the Sunshine State.
However, several political groups, political stakeholders, as well as the people in the state, have continued to demand explanations on why the governor would choose to govern the state from another state, saying that he could have continued his medical vacation if he was not sure of his health.
However, the Spokesperson for the Ondo PDP, Kennedy Peretei, has confirmed that staff were not allowed into the secretariat by the security operatives.
The ruling All Progressives Congress had on Sunday, raised alarm over alleged plots by the PDP and some APC chieftains, to instigate a crisis in the state.
The ruling APC assured that Governor Akeredolu would soon be back in the state, noting that he has been performing his official duties irrespective of location.
