The Presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi has paid a condolences visit to the family of the late Labour Party governorship aspirant for Imo state, Chief Humphrey Anumudu.
Chief Anumudu was found dead in his house in Lagos, after returning from a political meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja on Friday.
Anumudu was reportedly found dead in his house in what family sources described as a “spiritual attack.”
The late politician, who was a multi-billionaire and a successful businessman, has been contesting for the governorship seat of the state since 1998.
He allegedly won the Peoples Democratic Party governorship primary in the state in 1998 before the ticket was ceded to Achike Udenwa, who went on to rule the state between 1999 and 2007.
A native of Mbieri Ancient Kingdom, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo, Anumudun, has Since then, been contesting for the number one seat of the state. He was the Zenith Labour party’s governorship candidate in 2019.
A source, who is a close friend of the deceased, said that he died around 5:30 pm on Friday.
The late politician had already paid the sum of 25 million Naira for Labour Party’s Governorship form for the November 11th, 2023 governorship election, in the state.
The late politician, who was also a respected legal luminary and an astute politician, was the Chief Executive Officer of Globe Motors, during his life time.
He had contested for the Governorship election in the past, under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, in the state.
Mourning his death, Peter Obi described the late politician as a warm and forthright person, and described his death as a huge loss to his family, Labour Party, and the entire people of Imo State.
“Today, I paid a condolence visit to the family of a dear friend, and political colleague, Mr Humphrey Anumudu, whom I was deeply saddened by the news of his sudden death.
“Mr Anumudu is one of the strongest supporters of the Labour Party in Imo state and an aspirant in the forthcoming Imo State governorship election.
“He was a very warm, and forthright person. His death is a huge loss to his immediate and extended family, the Labour Party, the good people of Imo State, and to Nigeria.
“May God Almighty, who called him home at this time grant him eternal rest in His kingdom, and grant his family the fortitude to bear his irreplaceable loss. My sincere condolence to his family, and may God Almighty bless his family always. -PO,” he tweeted.
