Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, on Monday, received INTERPOL President, Major General Ahmed Nasir AL Raisi and his delegation.
During the opening ceremony of the Conference and Retreat for senior police officers in New Owerri, the governor proposed greater involvement of State Governments, multinational corporations, and private sector entities in financing the police for enhanced efficiency.
Governor Uzodimma highlighted the challenges hindering the optimal performance of the police in Nigeria, focusing on the importance of addressing their pay, welfare, and funding.
He stated that it’s time to tackle the recurring issue of police pay and urged the officers to use the Retreat to explore various proposals related to police remuneration, welfare, and funding.
During the event, various dignitaries, including the President of INTERPOL, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Gwabin Musa; the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and members of Senate and House Committees on Police Affairs, delivered goodwill messages.
