The acting Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Egbetokun, has provided assurance to the people of Bayelsa, Imo, and Kogi States regarding the upcoming November 11, 2023 elections, stating that the police high command has implemented sufficient security measures.
During a press conference held on Thursday, he expressed his commitment to this pledge after a meeting with Strategic Police Managers at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. He also urged voters to adhere to the regulations governing elections and abstain from engaging in any acts of violence.
Egbetokun said, “Just as we have seen in other isolated elections, we have availability of more men in number than the one of the general elections. I have no fear about how safe and secure the election which is going to take place on November 11, 2023.
“It is very convenient for us to deploy. Nobody should entertain fear about the security of the November election. We have prepared. We are ready and very soon, we will start deployment. We deliberately decided to take this year’s Police Conference and Retreat to one of the states where we are having the election.
“The conference and retreat is coming just less than two weeks before the election. So, it is deliberate and not by accident that we chose and date. It is also to show to the public that we are ready for the election. So, there is no fear for the coming election.”
IGP Egbetokun also urged voters in the respective states to be law abiding and exercise their franchise without fear as the Police will be on ground to guarantee their safety.
