Rivers State lawmakers loyal to the State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, in the State House of Assembly, are geared up to screen eight commissioner-nominees handpicked by the Governor himself.
The assembly’s Clerk, Dr. G, N Gillis-West, issued a formal invitation on Monday, summoning the nominees to present themselves before the House for scrutiny.
This move, orchestrated by the faction led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, is scheduled for 10 a.m. today (Tuesday), at the State House of Assembly auditorium in Government House, Port Harcourt.
The letter, bearing the title ‘Public Announcement,’ outlines the nominees, including Charles Beke, Collins Onunwo, Solomon Eke, Dr. Peter Medee, Eloka Amadi, Basoene Benibo, Tambari Gbara, and Dr. Ovy Chukwuma, and instructs them to bring along detailed resumes and copies of their academic qualifications.
This event marks the second round of screenings conducted by the Fubara-aligned assembly since its emergence as a parallel legislative body. Just last week, they confirmed Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, as the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, in a move that further solidified their allegiance to Governor Fubara.
However, tensions escalated as Prof. Zaccaeus Adangor, SAN, a key figure in Fubara’s cabinet, resigned from his position as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, signaling the widening chasm between Governor Fubara and Minister Wike.
