Following a recent allegation that the Nigerian Army was planning to deploy some members of the National Youth Service Corps, to restore peace in the Niger Republic, a video showing the moment some operatives of the Nigerian military were training members of the NYSC how to fire a machine gun, has generated various reactions on social media
It would be recalled that an allegation recently surfaced online, where Nigerians alleged that the army was to trying to deploy members of the NYSC to the war front at the Niger Republic.
The military group in Niger had recently toppled the democratic government in the country, by ousting the constitutionally-elected President of the country, Mohamed Bazoum, in a military coup, where the President has been given a house arrest, with the members of his family.
However, the Economic of West African Countries, in what was seen as a swift reaction, ordered the military group to reinstall Bazoum or face a military intervention by the ECOWAS troops, given a 7-day ultimatum, to comply with the order.
The Nigerien military group under the leadership of General Abdouramane Tchiani, on the other hand, warned the ECOWAS against any military involvement, noting that they meet them, prepared, while also cutting ties with most ECOWAS member countries, as well as France and the US, who are calling for a reinstallment of a democratic rule, in the country.
However, in what seems like taking advantage of a situation, the rumour widely spread all over social media, that army was preparing the corps members, ahead of the looming war in Niger.
The NYSC Director, Press and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, however, debunked the rumour and reassured the public that the establishment had no plan to deploy youth corps members to Niger to fight a war, to restore democracy in that country.
Meanwhile, barely a few weeks after the statement issued by the army spokesperson, the video of where the corps members were having training with the military, surfaced online, and it has caused mixed reactions on the internet.
The following are some of the reactions, which trailed the video:
