The Tony Okocha-led All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has called on Governor Siminalayi Fubara to either resign from office or face impeachment by the State House of Assembly.
Okocha made the demand during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, accusing the governor of mismanaging the state and failing to provide effective leadership.
According to him, Fubara has only two choices—resignation or impeachment.
He alleged that the governor’s administration has plunged the state into crisis, creating instability that threatens governance and development.
Okocha further claimed that the Supreme Court, in its recent verdict, indicated that there is no functional government in Rivers State. He cited multiple infractions by Fubara, which he described as impeachable offenses.
Additionally, he asserted that the governor has lost the authority to summon Assembly members for discussions, suggesting that his influence over the legislative arm of government has significantly weakened.
Okocha accused Fubara of insulting President Bola Tinubu, when he attempted to proffer a political solution to the crisis in the state.
He said: “As a political party, we are today advising the governor; there are two options, resign honourably or be impeached. That is the position of the All Progressives Congress. He has disrespected Mr. President and we told him that we cannot be here and have him to disrespect Mr. President.
“The offences are there; the Supreme Court has agreed and even provided us with more evidences. The House of Assembly does not need to set up any committee again to investigate him.
“48 hours is too much to give him as ultimatum. He should just resign honourably.”
