Former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that he will not be supporting either Governor Siminalayi Fubara or Nyesom Wike in the ongoing political situation in the state. Amaechi made this announcement during a visit to Hon. Okorinama West, a leader of the All Progressive Congress, at West’s private residence in Port Harcourt on Friday.
During the visit, Amaechi, who also served as the Minister of Transportation, attributed Governor Fubara’s popularity to the public backlash against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He observed that the shifting political dynamics in Rivers State are driven by personal interests, leading some of his former supporters to switch allegiances.
Addressing the political climate, Amaechi encouraged young supporters to actively participate in shaping the state’s leadership. He stated, “I can’t stand and join either Sim or Wike. I will not join Sim, I will not join Wike.”
Emphasizing the influence of grassroots support, Amaechi added, “But don’t forget, they are not big without you people, I hope you know that.” He further explained Governor Fubara’s current popularity, saying, “What Sim thinks is popularity today is because he is anti-Wike. That’s his popularity, not that Sim is the best man on earth. It’s because he is anti-Wike and because the state is tired of Wike.”
