Former President Goodluck Jonathan has praised Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, describing him as an emerging “political General” whose leadership is being shaped by the political challenges he has encountered since taking office.
Jonathan made the remarks during a chieftaincy installation ceremony in Etche Local Government Area, where he highlighted Fubara’s resilience in overcoming political hurdles.
He stressed that adversity is a key factor in developing leadership, and that the challenges Governor Fubara faces will strengthen his political acumen and solidify his role in Rivers State politics.
Jonathan also urged the people of Rivers State to rally behind the governor’s administration, emphasizing the importance of peace in the region for the broader stability of the nation.
He noted that a peaceful Rivers State is crucial for the economic and social well-being of the Niger Delta and the country as a whole.
“I know you (Gov. Fubara) are passing through challenges, and at occasions like these, I try to keep quiet. I don’t like to say certain things. This is the first time you are holding a top political office. You will face a lot. But remember, nobody becomes a General without fighting wars. Whatever challenges you face now are preparing you to be a General in politics. With your commitment and the support I see from the people of Rivers, God will see you through.
“We want a peaceful Rivers State because it is the center of the Niger Delta. If we create problems in Rivers State, we create a crisis in the Niger Delta, which is detrimental to our economy. We need a peaceful state, and we want the Governor to remain calm and focus on his work,” Jonathan added.
Governor Fubara, who was honored with the chieftaincy title of Dike Oha 1 of Etche Land by the Supreme Council of Etche Traditional Rulers, expressed gratitude for the recognition and support from both the Etche and Ikwerre communities. He also reaffirmed his commitment to advancing development projects aimed at improving the lives of Rivers residents, including ongoing road projects in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities.
The governor assured that these projects would be completed in the coming months and reiterated his administration’s focus on maintaining law and order in the state. He expressed appreciation for the patience and support of the people, emphasizing his administration’s determination to continue on its developmental path.
Governor Fubara acknowledged the unwavering support of former President Jonathan, recognizing his guidance during the challenging periods of the administration.
“You are aware that we recently awarded road projects in Afara, Egwi, and Mba communities. We will ensure these roads are completed, and in the next few months, we will come here to commission them,” he stated.
Fubara also assured the people of his administration’s dedication to maintaining law and order. “We will continue to follow the rightful path and reach our promised land. Thank you for your patience and support,” he said.
The event also celebrated the 10-year reign of Eze Nwala as a traditional ruler, with Senator John Azuta Mbata, who chaired the occasion, commending the monarch for his service. He urged traditional rulers to continue their efforts in fostering peace and security within their domains.
Additionally, the ceremony coincided with the 1st Etche Festival of Food, Art, and Culture Exhibition, where Governor Fubara reiterated his administration’s commitment to celebrating and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Rivers State.
In the face of political challenges, Governor Fubara continues to draw inspiration from the support of influential leaders and local communities, as he strives to build a legacy of progress and unity in Rivers State.
