The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, has addressed the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State involving himself and Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
During an event, Wike reflected on the nature of gratitude and divine providence in human affairs, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and appreciating the help one receives from others.
Wike stated, “I respect people who appreciate what God has done for them, who appreciate what God has used people to do for them. God does not come down, God uses people for helping people, so, when you have been helped, you appreciate them and then God will know you have also appreciated Him.”
He firmly denied ever demanding adoration from others, asserting that worship is due only to God. “I have never told anybody to worship me, nobody can worship man. All of us believe that we only have one God and it’s only that God we worship and we will continue to worship that God,” Wike declared.
The Minister also touched upon the human capacity for error and the need for forgiveness. “I want to say this clearly, in life, if you have made a mistake, you say you’ve made a mistake, there’s nothing you can do about it. I have made a mistake, I own it up and I’ve said God forgive me and I’ve said all of you forgive me but we will correct it at the appropriate time,” he said.
Wike’s remarks come amidst a backdrop of strained relations with Governor Fubara, whom he supported during the latter’s rise to governorship.
Acknowledging his fallibility, Wike asked for forgiveness for any wrong judgement he may have made, stating, “I’m a human being, I am bound to make mistakes. My judgement can be wrong. So forgive me for making a wrong judgement. That’s life, so nobody should kill himself.”
The political scene in Rivers State has been fraught with tension, with accusations of ingratitude and disputes over governance and resources. Wike’s recent statement indicates a willingness to address past decisions and seek resolution, although the specifics of the “appropriate time” for correction remain undisclosed.
