The Rivers Development Foundation has urged Governor Siminalayi Fubara to investigate the state’s outgoing local government chairpersons for alleged mismanagement of internally generated revenues and embezzlement.
The group claims that the chairmen have prioritized loyalty to Abuja authorities over serving the people of Rivers State.
RiDeF has called for a probe panel to investigate the allegations, citing reliable information about treasury looting, misappropriation of government properties, and squandering of IGR, according to Pulse
Despite receiving substantial allocations, the outgoing chairmen have allegedly not initiated any projects since taking office.
The group’s concerns highlight the need for accountability and transparency in governance, ensuring that public funds are used for the people’s benefit.
Governor Fubara’s response to these allegations will be closely watched, as the people of Rivers State demand good governance and responsible leadership.
They alleged that the prevalence of nepotism, cronyism, and favouritism within the local governments under these outgoing council bosses is also concerning.
“There are also allegations of ghost workers, budget-padding, racketeering, and insubordination to the government and people of Rivers State, amongst others, against the outgoing Local Government Chairmen”, the group alleged.
They stated that his performance so far is beyond “expectations and worthy of emulation.”
