Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly have retracted the previously issued impeachment notice against Governor Siminalayi Fubara during their official session in Port Harcourt on Wednesday.
The lawmakers convened specifically to address the withdrawal of the impeachment notice against Fubara, a move that followed a mediated truce between the warring parties, facilitated by President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa in Abuja on Monday.
According to TVC reports, the lawmakers announced their decision to withdraw the notice, citing respect for the President as the primary reason for their action.
The conflict between Fubara and Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and his predecessor, led to a split among House members, with 27 lawmakers defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party to the ruling All Progressives Congress.
During the course of the feud, various events unfolded, including parallel sittings, an uncovered impeachment plot against the governor, the demolition of the Assembly complex, and a series of resignations within Fubara’s cabinet, primarily composed of pro-Wike commissioners.
