Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced that the minimum wage for civil servants in the state is now ₦85,000.
He made this declaration during an interview with Channels Television, stating, “I’m glad to let you know that the minimum wage for Lagos, which we have discussed with our union, is ₦85,000 today.”
This development is a significant step towards improving the welfare of workers in the state. Previously, Sanwo-Olu had promised to pay the new minimum wage approved by the Federal Government during the Workers’ Day celebration on May 1, 2024.
The governor has demonstrated his commitment to workers’ welfare through various initiatives, including subsidizing food items and transportation costs.
By increasing the minimum wage, the Lagos State Government aims to strike a balance between ensuring workers’ well-being and fostering economic sustainability.
As Sanwo-Olu noted, “Our goal is to strike a balance that ensures the well-being of our workers while fostering economic sustainability”.
Key Initiatives by the Lagos State Government:
– Subsidized Food Items: The “Ounje Eko” initiative provides affordable food options for residents.
– Transportation Support: The state government has implemented measures to reduce transportation costs.
– Education and Healthcare: Sanwo-Olu’s administration has invested in infrastructure development, education, and healthcare to support the overall well-being of workers.
