Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, has reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration to delivering the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.
Speaking at a media stakeholders’ forum in Ikeja, Omotoso highlighted ongoing projects and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents across local governments and local council development areas.
Omotoso disclosed that the New Massey Street Children’s Hospital is nearing completion and would become the largest paediatric facility in West Africa upon commissioning later this year. In addition, he revealed that significant progress has been made in other healthcare projects, including the 280-bed General Hospital in Ojo, the Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ejinrin, and infrastructure upgrades at the Ibeju-Lekki and Lagos General Hospitals.
“This year, the present administration’s vision is to build on the gains of Y2024 through the commissioning of projects that would impact communities, especially at the grassroots,” Omotoso said.
Omotoso encouraged young entrepreneurs to take advantage of funding opportunities provided by the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and other government initiatives. He noted that these platforms offer loans and grants that have helped many startups stabilize and achieve profitability.
“Many startups have become stable and profitable through support from the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund and other agencies of the Lagos State Government that provide financial support to growing business entities,” Omotoso stated.
On tourism, Omotoso revealed that the state is intensifying efforts to boost revenue and attract foreign exchange through initiatives aimed at positioning Lagos as a global destination.
“This year, we are focused on making significant progress in revitalizing cultural, religious, and recreational infrastructure across the state. Therefore, we will sustain efforts to restore the historic Elemoro Palace in Ibeju-Lekki and the Princess Erelu Kuti Tomb, commemorating one of Lagos’ most prominent historical figures,” he said.
Omotoso assured residents that no ongoing project under the Sanwo-Olu administration would be abandoned. He emphasised the importance of the T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, noting that more initiatives aligned with this framework would be unveiled in 2025.
Acknowledging the media’s role in amplifying the administration’s achievements, Omotoso expressed gratitude to journalists for their support and urged community newspapers to continue bridging the gap between the government and the people.
“There will be more of such media engagements this year. We appreciate feedback from the media because you stay among the people who rely on you to bring the government’s attention to their needs,” he said.
The forum concluded with Omotoso reiterating the government’s dedication to fostering grassroots development and ensuring that all residents benefit from Lagos State’s growth and progress.
