The Nigerian Senate has summoned Minister of Works Senator Dave Umahi to address the deteriorating condition of the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road.
This decision was made after Senator Buhari Abdulfatai (APC-Oyo North) raised concerns about the road’s worsening state, highlighting its impact on travelers.
The road, a crucial link between the South and North, has become a significant source of hardship for travelers, causing frequent strandings and distress. Senator Abdulfatai emphasized the road’s importance, noting that its poor condition has led to regular accidents and daily gridlock caused by articulated vehicles.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio directed the Committee on Works to report to the plenary in three weeks, stressing that despite over 10 years of federal government repairs, the road remains in a deplorable state.
It’s worth noting that the Oyo State Government has been working on other road projects, including the nearly completed 76.67 km Iseyin-Fapote-Ogbomoso Road, which connects Ogbomoso and Oke Ogun Zones.
Additionally, the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing has initiated repairs on over 320 roads nationwide.
However, the Old Oyo-Ogbomosho road’s condition remains a pressing concern, and the Senate’s summons aims to address this issue and ensure the minister takes necessary actions to improve the road’s condition.
