A ministerial nominee from Oyo State, Bosun Tijani, was grilled by Senators over a controversial tweet he made in 2019.
On Saturday, August 5, when the screening of nominees resumed, the senator representing Oyo north, Abdulfatai Buhari, asked Tijani to speak on his 2019 tweet.
Buhari asked the nominee whether he is still a patriotic Nigerian.
During the plenary, other senators insisted that the ministerial nominee should answer the question raised by Buhari.
In the 2019 tweet, Tijani had written, “Nigeria is a bloody expensive tag”.
Addressing the Senate, Tijani said he is very passionate about Nigeria and is committed to the country’s development. The nominee said he tweeted out of a frustrating experience with the Chinese Embassy.
“I tweeted in anger,” the ministerial nominee from Ogun admitted.
The lawmaker asked the nominee to clarify whether he still believes in Nigeria and the country’s passport.
