Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged state governors to prioritize human and capital development programs in their domains to drive sustainable social and economic growth in Nigeria.
The Nation’s number two citizen made the call during the inauguration of the newly remodeled Government House in Bauchi, a project executed by Governor Bala Mohammed’s administration.
He highlighted the crucial role state governments play in addressing development challenges such as healthcare, education, and security.
The Vice President stressed that effective leadership and value-driven governance are essential to improving development indices in Nigerian states, which currently lag behind global standards, according to Peoples Gazette.
“Development indices in many Nigeria states lag behind the global standards and effective value driven political leadership is necessary to improve.
“By promoting right values across schools, institutions and government agencies, state governments can lay a solid foundation for future progress.
“It is incumbent upon all of us in positions of authority to take interventions in developing governance infrastructure as a catalyst to harmonise and supervise our policy making process in the country,” he said.
Shettima commended Governor Mohammed for his commitment to repositioning Bauchi State through development-oriented projects, including the reconstruction of the Government House.
He also praised the North-East state governors for their unity and sense of purpose, urging them to continue working together to address the sub-region’s development challenges.
Governor Mohammed explained that his administration’s goal is to establish legacy projects that can sustain the developmental needs of the state’s people.
He expressed pride in the remodeled Government House, a significant achievement for his administration.
The event was attended by neighboring state governors, including Babagana Zulum, Inuwa Yahaya, Ahmadu Fintiri, Mai Mala Buni, and Agbu Kefas.
