The Sokoto State House of Assembly has approved the 2024 Supplementary Budget of N89.9 billion, following the presentation of the report by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation during a plenary session on Thursday.
The committee’s chairman, Abdullahi Zakari (APC-Rabah), presented the report, which was based on Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s request to the Assembly on Tuesday.
The committee recommended the inclusion of N7 billion in recurrent expenditures and N82.9 billion in capital expenditures in the bill’s schedule, according to News Agency of Nigeria.
Zakari emphasized that the committee did not make any adjustments to the proposed supplementary budget.
After series of contributions from various lawmakers, Speaker Tukur Bala put the motion to a voice vote, which was unanimously adopted by the Assembly.
The passage of the supplementary budget aims to address additional financial needs and support the state’s development projects and programs.
The swift approval process demonstrates the collaborative efforts between the executive and legislative branches to ensure effective governance in Sokoto State.
“The bill was presented on the floor on Tuesday. Due to its importance to the state’s services, however, it received both its first and second readings promptly.
“The proposed supplementary inflow includes statutory allocation/VAT, infrastructural development funds from the Federal Government, FGN/State Debt Swap, signature bonuses, and goods and valuable consideration.
“The supplementary budget affects the ministries of Land and Housing, Religious Affairs, Agriculture, Health, Humanitarian Affairs, Water Resources, Finance, and Women Affairs,” he said.
