The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, on Tuesday, received four of his colleagues from the South-West region at his private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
The visit came amid speculations about Akeredolu’s health condition, which has kept him away from official duties for some time.
The governors who paid a solidarity visit to Akeredolu were Seyi Makinde of Oyo, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti. They were said to have discussed issues of common interest to the region, such as security, development, and politics.
Akeredolu has been staying in Ibadan since he returned from Germany, where he reportedly underwent medical treatment for an undisclosed ailment. He had earlier revealed that he had been battling with an illness that affected his appearance. He had also assured the people of Ondo that there was no cause for alarm over his health.
However, his prolonged absence from office has raised concerns among his supporters and critics alike. Some have called for his resignation or impeachment, while others have prayed for his speedy recovery.
The acting governor of Ondo, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, had recently given an update on Akeredolu’s health, saying that he was responding well to treatment and would soon resume duty.
Akeredolu is a second-term governor under the All Progressives Congress and his tenure will end in 2024. He is also the chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, which has been championing the cause of regional integration and cooperation.
